Scratching the Surface of Stainless Steel

Note to mothers:

I know this is a horrible picture but you get the point.
Do not allow for any magnet toys such as Leap Frog learning toys to make it to your refrigerator door if you have stainless steel.  It scratches the steel and I cannot remove the scratch by buffing it off.  Does anyone have any other ideas?  I know it's not that big of a deal but I hate the way it looks and well, my appliances aren't going anywhere anytime soon so I would like to keep them in a decent condition.

    What's done is done, but we put the letter magnets on the sides where it's black. Welcome to life with a 'big kid'! Everything pretty much gets thrashed!

    Before you try anything else, try Brasso [link is to product info at Amazon] metal cleaner. It worked great to remove light scratches on stainless steel.
