The Harvest Is In

I can't believe that I have my very own working and growing vegetable garden.  Something I spoke about for years, I am in awe everyday that I get to go out to the garden and pick ripe tomatoes, zucchini, basil, thyme, red leaf lettuce, strawberries, cucumber and now carrots!

Although small (only 9' x 5'), my garden is MORE than enough to feed my family alone.  Tonight, I am making a vegetable tray for a party almost exclusively from my garden's harvest.  And yesterday I picked up my canning supplies because you better believe in no time I will have tomatoes growing out of my ears!  I am in need of some really great canning recipes..and soon.

Now that I have a garden, I wonder why in the world I waited so long to do it in the first place.  I suppose moving a lot, baby, no space are good excuses.  But what a great way to sustain what we have right out our very own back door instead of making the trips to the stores or markets for items shipped from other countries.  Now I don't know what I would ever do without my garden.  It's never to late to begin...

  1. Yumm-my fav! Caprese salad! and I bet it tasted great being the tomatoes and basil were home grown. My mom has a small garden and her tomatoes always seemed to have more flavor and be meatier (if a tomato can be called "meaty") than any from the grocery store. I'm happy to hear your garden is doing so well.
    Love ya girl!

  2. My favorite thing to do at the end of tomato season is have a sauce party. You can freeze it in servings, and have fresh sauce year round!
