ksl.com - Pampers Dry Max diapers under investigation

ksl.com - Pampers Dry Max diapers under investigation

I know many of you have already heard about the controversial Pampers Dry Max diapers.  Apparently, a group of mothers filed a class action lawsuit against Pampers because their children experienced rashes, blisters, and burns from chemicals contained in the diapers.  Proctor and Gamble denies the diapers are dangerous and states they had extensive testing.  They blame the common diaper rash as the culprit.

The Consumer Products Safety Commission and Health Canada recently announced their intent on investigating the complaints further...

Can anybody say...cloth diaper?  I'm so glad that we are replacing our regular diapers with reusable, non-toxic cloth diapers.  And really...could they be any cuter???

"Gasland"

Have any of you heard much about the dangers of natural gas extraction leaking into our water supply?  A friend of mine posted this PBS (gotta love their research!) show on their facebook profile and I was stunned to watch it.  I had no idea...and I have been a strong supporter of natural gas versus oil for a few years now.

I want to share this with you all.  Click on the title to this post or here to view:

Will the boom in natural gas drilling contaminate America's water supply? NOW talks with filmmaker Josh Fox about 'Gasland', his Sundance award-winning documentary on the surprising consequences of natural gas drilling.

Cloth Diapers vs. Disposable Diapers

After seeing some super cute cloth/reusable diapers at my friend's house yesterday, I wanted to learn more about the benefits of using cloth versus disposables on our wee ones.

Of course there is the obvious, cloth diapers are reusable and don't end up in our landfills.  If we estimated that we change 8 diapers per day for 2 years of a child's life, that is 5,840 diapers for ONE child that will end up in our landfills.  That is A LOT.  And if we estimated how many children are in the US consuming diapers, we can safely assume that 27. 4 billion diapers are ending up in our landfills each year.  This is huge...and embarrassing that I've taken a part in such.

Of course, people will argue the hassle of cleaning cloth diapers.  It would be a bit more time consuming and a bit messier short term.  But does this outweigh the long term affects of disposables to humans and the earth?  No.  Then one can argue the cost in water used in washing the diapers as well as the electricity used to wash them in the washing machine.  But is this enough of an argument either?  With it being so minimal, I don't think so.

Another factor of disposable diaper's long term affects to our earth is the human waste factor.  When one uses a cloth diaper, the instructions state to discard the waste directly into the toilet so, along with other human waste, it goes into the sewage system which is then treated and etc etc.  However, it's estimated that less than .5% of disposable diaper waste goes into the sewage system with the rest going into our landfills.

One more factor is cost.  The cost of cloth diapering is about 1/10th the cost of disposable diapering.  WOW!

There is also the concerns of how safe disposable diapers are to babies' sensitive skin and health.  Disposable diapers often times contain harmful dyes, dioxin, and other bleaching agents that we would not want near our babies bums.  And yet we do and wonder why they get diaper rash!  Of course, with cloth diapers you need to attend to a dirty diaper immediately otherwise a diaper rash can occur too.

Is it convincing to you yet?

If you aren't already using cloth diapers for your diapered babies, here are some great brands that I found to get you started:

All I can tell you is I'm sold...and not sure why it has taken me this long.  I think I will order some cloth diapers today!  Can anyone recommend their favorite cloth diapers so I know which ones to purchase? Your recommendations mean the world to me:) Thank you.

ksl.com - Layton home cleared of deadly gas; investigation continues

ksl.com - Layton home cleared of deadly gas; investigation continues

What was thought to be a routine procedure in handling pest control ended in tragedy. A family near Salt Lake had a pest control company come by their home to take care of a rodent problem and because of carelessness in handling and using the toxin, a 4 year old has died from the inhalation of toxic gas and a 15 month old is hanging on for his/her life.

Fertility Woes

I came across an article this morning about infertility and thought it would be beneficial for those of you struggling to conceive and/or struggling to keep a baby growing inside...this would be very useful and give you more hope that you can take control of the situation by making simple changes.  I actually thought about this yesterday as I read about toxins in our bodies.  While some toxins have very little to no affect on one individual that same toxin, in combination with another individual's DNA, physical condition, or an environmental factor can wreak havoc on their body and their ability to conceive.

Looking back, I remember how sick I felt the first 3 months of pregnancy.  This sickness was due to the enourmous amount of vitamins and nutrients my growing placenta needed in order to grow to where it needed to be to grow a baby.  The placental growth pulls everything it possibly can from the rest of a woman's body...hence the increase of teeth cavities, change of skin and hair, and the nausea.  If those nutrients aren't there for which the placenta to pull from, it will know it cannot safely grow a baby.  It's amazing how our organs make decisions such as that!  Our bodies really do amazing things...

So if you are struggling with infertility, or any other ailment you cannot "fix"...try starting out with the basics.  Like I always say, the simplist answer is usually the right answer!

Since this article is so long, I will copy only an excerpt.  To view the entire link, click on my title or copy and paste the link below:

10 Strategies You Can Immediately Implement to Treat Infertility and Boost Fertility Naturally
The natural approach to treating infertility solves the root causes of infertility, by addressing all body systems, rather than just focusing solely on the reproductive system.
Many couples who can’t become pregnant suffer from a combination of sub-clinical conditions. These conditions can’t cause infertility on their own but -- in combination -- they can substantially reduce a couple’s probability of conceiving.
For example; a gluten intolerance alone cannot cause infertility; however, the resulting inflammation in the gut can minimize your nutrient absorption and lead to deficiencies in nutrients you need for optimal sperm, egg and hormone production and a healthy pregnancy. Exposure to heavy metals, radiation, and toxic chemicals in some foods, drugs and other products can damage DNA. Recent Nutrigenomic (a study of the effects of nutrients on gene expression) research suggests what we eat can influence our gene structure and expression.
